Boi-SEE, Not Boi-ZEE

Since before we got to Idaho we had friends telling us we just had to go to Boise. A couple of people even compared it to Austin (that was a bit of a stretch😬). So we put it at the top of our list and and we booked our Airbnb. When I say 'we' I mean Ryan and when I say 'Airbnb" I mean yurt. When he sent me the page the yurt was beautiful and seemed fun at the time so I immediately said yes. Just FYI for those looking into staying in a yurt...there are no bathrooms in a yurt. Therefore you must trek outside in sub 40 degree weather across the yard and into the far back of a garage in the dark, or at least we had to. I'm sure not all yurts are created equal. After 4 hours of driving we finally arrived in Boise around lunchtime. We had a delicious lunch at Bittercreek Alehouse and then walked around the 8th Street area. Catching Up

Ryan and I had to make some pretty big adjustments after moving to Idaho Falls. We went from Austin, a city of almost 900,000 people, to Idaho Falls - population: 56,000. In Austin we could eat, drink, shop, catch live music, or walk the trail next to Lady Bird Lake all within 2-4 blocks from our apartment. Here in little ol' Idaho Falls we have to try a little harder to find the fun. Sometimes that means driving a few miles to the Greenbelt along the Snake River or to Snow Eagle Brewery. Other times it means spending hours a day driving around sightseeing. Our first outings here in Idaho Falls consisted of visiting the Falls and the Greenbelt. We also walked around the little baby downtown and a nearby park.  The frozen Snake River, taken from the Greenbelt. In the background you can see the Mormon Temple The then frozen Falls-you just don't see this everywhere. I just love frozen bodies of water! Haha! Checking out Sportsman Park The side of an old hotel ...

Thawing Out in Idaho Falls

Well haaay y'all!! Ryan and I have been busy working and playing and I've just found a few minutes to tell y'all about it. So far, so good here in ol' Idaho. I just finished my 7th week here and we've nestled in quite nicely. I'm really enjoying my job and we've made some really great friends here. We'll be so sad to leave them! So, Idaho Falls is tiny (compared to every other city we've lived in) so it only took us a few weeks to check all the "touristy" things off of our list. It -literally- took TWO days to run into someone we knew at the mall. Idaho Falls is like Temple, TX style small town where everyone knows everyone and their mama. It's been kinda fun being back in a small town. It's really quiet here, even in the middle of a weekday. We rarely hear sirens or loud drunk people making their way down the sidewalk. It's a little weird. But also nice. But also were anxious to get back to a big city! My recruiter has been u...

New Year, New Adventures

Well dang y'all. It's been a while. Between work and cramming in as much family and friend time as possible there's not much time left for blogging. Not that y'all probably even noticed. Haha! I was just talking to Ryan today about how blogging is a little bit narcissistic. But, here I am, so I guess I don't care. 😆 Anyway, we're finishing up our time here in Austin. I'm not going to lie, we got of to a pretty rocky start but the last half is shaping up to be pretty awesome. I've really gotten to know and love my unit and coworkers. It's going to be pretty hard to leave family, old friends, and new friends. In the same breath those same pesky pants ants are in full force and I'm super excited for our next adventure. Ryan and I had been pretty set on finishing out the winter in Florida, or at least on the east coast. As my end date neared there were potential contracts in New Hampshire, Baltimore, Washington D.C., Myrtle Beach, S.C., and St...

Working My Way Back Up!

Image
I know it's been a while since my last post and that's mainly because I GOT MY JOB BACK! Yep, that's right. I was hired right back on into my exact same contract that was canceled. I don't even know what all my recruiter had to do to make that happen but I'm sure glad she did! Since it is the same contract I'll be ending November 8th, but we are still hoping to stay through the beginning of January. So come November I'll be at the mercy of Dell again. But fingers crossed that things work out and I get word of an extension soon. Ryan has also secured a job through the holidays. He works at an Austin apparel/gift store that's right across the street from our apartment building called Austin Rocks. There are only 3 other people that he works with so he's had a great time getting to know them. We've also already benefitted from his awesome discount! The past few weeks we've just been settling into our new jobs and continuing to see friends. T...

Currently Experiencing a "Down Side"

Image
Well I think everyone knows by now that my contract with Dell Children's Hospital was canceled by the hospital. That was 12 days ago now and I still don't have a new job. Normally what would happen if a contract was canceled is that my recruiter would submit me to pretty much any available PICU day jobs throughout the country and I'd go to the first one that offered me a job. However, a decision we made in regards to our housing and the fact that we want to stay in Austin is kind of limiting my options. Lucky for me, (hopefully not for bad/sad reasons) a traveler currently on contract with Dell is not going to be able to finish his/her contract. This led to the the Dell director contacting me again and asking if I was interested in coming back and finishing out that contract. Of course I said yes but due to all the junk that has to be done between my company and the hospital I don't have an official offer yet. I could still potentially not start work again until next we...
