Sunshiny Fun In San Diego

Well, I guess we've been having so much fun in San Diego the blog has fallen to the wayside. Actually, I know we've been having fun because for the first three months we were here we had friends and family visiting us every other week! That sure makes time go by fast and doesn't allow too much time for tipee-typing on the ol' keyboard.

We've done a billion and a half things! It's going to be hard to only give the Reader's Digest version. San Diego is one of our favorite cities. I sat on the beach and cried my eyes out the morning we left the last time. The weather is always perfect. Even during dreary 'May gray' and 'June gloom' the temps are still superb even if the sun's not shining. There are more than 150 breweries in the San Diego area, not including all the wineries and distilleries. They even make high ABV kombucha here! Ha! I'm gonna have to get my hands on that before we leave. Don't even get me started on the food. The sushi is fresh and delicious, there's authentic Mexican food on every corner, AND THE CHIPOTLE! The Chipotle is just top notch! 😆 Ryan and I have also really enjoyed getting out and adventuring a little more in San Diego's neighborhoods. Last go 'round we mostly stayed right where we lived. This time we didn't limit ourselves to just our neck of the woods. Each neighborhood has it's own unique vibe, different restaurants, breweries, bars, shops, etc. San Diego is truly our little bit of Southern Californian paradise.

To sum it all up we:

...watched the sunset from Sunset Cliffs with @laura_en_route

...played Pokemon Go all throughout the beautiful Balboa Park

...showed lots of friends and family the seals at La Jolla Cove

...checked out the San Diego County State Fair

...day tripped to Del Mar

...rode bikes (and a scooter) down the Boardwalk in Pacific Beach...in matching shirts
(Thanks Christina! 😘)

...checked out the birthplace of California grapes-Ramona Valley

...with Ryan's family

...explored San Diego bay...fo free! (From a timeshare pitch we got suckered into at the fair 😆)

...showed mom around Ocean Beach

...and Old Town

...added a new member to our family, Ruby

...had the most delicious michelada in Barrio Logan

...had many beach days in Coronado

...checked out many different tide pools

...and took advantage of our amazing pool!

It's about a week until the big move, and and up until this exact moment I've been excited and ready to get outta here! We have some pretty amazing people. We love the girls in our KOA office and they love Ruby and June. We've really gotten to know our coworkers and have made great friends. We've spent tons of quality time with a friend that we knew previously from our Austin assignment. It's gonna be hard to leave AGAIN.

All this leaving and moving talk and I haven't even mentioned our next assignment!! What the heck!? I had a few ideas of where I wanted to go next. Specifically, we wanted to go to the east coast. Nowhere too far north, like Virginia maybe or one of the Carolinas, we even entertained going back to Nashville. But you know what they say about plans and all that. Instead, we opted to be close to family for the holidays. More importantly, we missed H.E.B. so much that we just couldn't take it any longer and we NEED it - so back to Texas it is! We'll be living in an RV park in League City and I'll be working at Clear Lake Regional Hospital in Webster. I had to Google it. It's basically a southeastern suburb of Houston. I'm hoping it'll be a nice mild place to spend the winter. Fingers crossed.

We roll out of San Diego on the 17th and we'll be taking about 8 days to get to Houston. We're stopping for a couple of nights in Tombstone, AZ, White Sands National Park, Marfa, and Big Bend National Park. I'm so excited to finally get to see these places and experience them for myself! T minus 7 days!

Well alright y'all, I think I've done enough rambling.

See you soon, Texas!!

  1. When do you have to be in Houston? Wondering what day you'll be in Big Bend...still October?
